The Chairman of Commission for Social, Humanitarian Affairs and Solidarity, Ahmad Azam Abdul Rahman led a 4 man fact-finding mission to Cambodia from 2-5 July 2008
The fact-finding mission was assisted by Cambodia Muslim Intellectual Alliance (CMIA), a new member of UNIW. The main objective of the mission is to meet relevant authorities in Cambodia in relation to the development of Muslims and also to identify areas where the members of UNIW can assist directly to the Champa Muslims, about 800000 living in poverty and destitude.
The mission was well received by His Excellency Mr. Othsman Hassan, Secretary of State for Labor and Vocational Training and His Excellency Mr. Ahmad Yahya, Advisor with Ministerial Status to the Prime Minister. After series of discussion, meeting and visits, the following was agreed upon as the conclusion of the fact finding mission:-
1. to organize a conference on the development and integration of Muslims in Cambodia co-organized by UNIW, CMIA and Government of Cambodia in December 2008
2. Meeting of Commission member of Social, Humanitarian Affairs and Solidarity, UNIW 3. Visit Muslim villages, mosques, madrasah 4. Meeting with Muslim organizations in Cambodia 5. The government of Cambodia shall bear the local hospitality i.e, transportation, hotel and food. 6. UNIW member shall undertake own traveling arrangement 7. Recognize that Muslims in Cambodia need a long term solution for education and economic development.
